Memories of Industry
Objective:
The "Memories of the Industry of São João da Madeira" project aimed to record testimonies and recollections of all those who contributed to this history. It counted on the collaboration of the Municipality of São João da Madeira and a group of 86 volunteer who participated by sharing their memories, documents, and objects. These testimonies relate to the creation and transformation of the industrial landscape, crafsmanship and know how, and the life surrounding work in these industries and in this region.
Through these memories, we can learn about the history of the different industries that were established here, the dynamics of their creation, everyday working life, and their influence on the lives of people, families, and the region. Particular emphasis was placed on the history of Oliva, Viarco, the footwear and hat-making sectors, among many other references.
The initiative was promoted by the Municipality of São João da Madeira - Industrial Tourism and the Memory for All program (NOVA FCSH), in partnership with the KEEP Association and the Oliva Creative Factory.
The interviews were conducted in Portuguese.
