Museum:
Memories of the Revolution
Objective:
Aiming to rescue and preserve the memory of a fundamental period in our history - the Portuguese revolution of April 1974 - the Instituto de História Contemporânea (IHC) of the NOVA University of Lisbon held, in 2015, the first ?Memory Days of the Revolution?. For three days - April 24, 25 and 26, 2015 - a team of researchers collected and analyzed testimonies, objects and documents from dozens of people who went to the Quartel do Carmo in Lisbon to share their stories. The result was the creation of a collection - constantly updated - varied and of indisputable historical relevance.
As part of a broader project on "Memories of the Revolution," which includes a portal developed by RTP and IHC, the collection of memories in different formats (video, audio, and text) was repeated on April 7th and 8th, 2017, at the Municipality of Loures, where, once again, the enormous interest of the participants in sharing their memories and documents that they had kept for years was evident.
Through the testimonies of those who have participated in the "Memory Days of the Revolution," it was possible to create an audiovisual archive that reveals the revolutionary period from different perspectives. Alongside the objects, documents, and photographs collected, the shared stories allow us to have a better understanding of how the years 1974 and 1975 were lived, but also how these people participated and became involved - in the streets, factories, schools, barracks, and many other places - in the construction of democratic Portugal.
Alongside the collection of memories, the Memory for All program joined several initiatives. Notable among these are the "Memories of the Revolution" portal, created by RTP in collaboration with IHC, which includes diverse resources (historical timelines, videos, biographies, sounds, etc.), and the portal "Extrema-esquerda: porque não fizemos a revolução?", developed by RTP in partnership with the Centro de Documentação 25 de Abril of the University of Coimbra, Mural Sonoro, and IHC.
The interviews were conducted in Portuguese.
