Charlie Lindmark, 18, has lived in Kiruna (Sweden) his entire life. He is currently in his final year of the Nature Program and will soon graduate. After graduating, rather than going directly to university, Charlie plans to stay in Kiruna and work for at least a year. Charlie describes Kiruna as a good place to live. He mentions the small size of the town and the sense of safety that comes with it, especially compared to larger cities. He reflects on how much the city has changed in recent years due to the relocation of the town centre, saying that changes have been “both good and bad”. Unlike many people, Charlie doesn❜t feel especially connected to the old city centre, since he has always lived in Tuolluvaara, east of the new centre. He mentions that the city❜s relocation has benefited him personally, as it has allowed him to walk instead of taking the bus to school during the past three years. Charlie has also been a member of Soda, the local board game club in Kiruna, for over six years. He has spent countless hours there and has important memories connected to the space. Soda represents the part of the city relocation that has been affecting him most personally. The club❜s current building is expected to be demolished, and members still don❜t know what will happen next. Charlie explains that there have been some discussions with LKAB, however both he and other club members still feel stressed about the uncertainty. He also mentions that multiple clubs in Kiruna – more than 400 clubs and associations exist across the municipality of Kiruna – have come together to fight for future spaces in the moving city. Together, they have collected around 9000 signatures to support their demands.
