Resumo:
Molly Eld, 19, has lived in Kiruna (Sweden) her entire life and is currently in her final year of studying Natural Sciences. Alongside her studies, she spends much of her free time creating art. Her recent work focuses on what Kiruna means to her personally, especially as parts of the old town are being demolished due to the city❜s relocation. She was originally asked at school to write about Kiruna and decided to combine writing with a visual design. Her designs depict the old city centre, specifically Gidlöws Guld and the Kiruna Church. She has since then printed her art on tote bags, mugs and most recently kitchen towels. Together with her colleagues, she decided to focus on an everyday household item so that people could carry a daily reminder of old Kiruna with them. Speaking about life in Kiruna today, Molly says that having grown up there, she had only just begun to think of it as a “home”. Although at first the move felt manageable because the new town centre was being built, the reality of the change truck her when she returned to the old centre while working on her design and saw how much had already been demolished. Although she finds the transformation sad, she also understands its necessity.
